Agapanthus - introduced (*Agapanthus praecox subsp. orientalis)

Family: Agapanthaceae (Agapanthus family). Agapanthus was formerly included in the Lily family. The Agapanthaceae family has only one genus, Agapanthus.
Native of South Africa.

Occurrence: All southern States of Australia. It is a minor weed in Central Victoria but more common in damper southern areas.

Identification:

• the large spherical clusters of blue (or pale blue or white) flowers are distictive
• the flower stalks may be a metre or more long
• the dense clusters of leaves at the base are about half a metre high and up to a metre wide.

Many parts of the plant are poisonous.
