Plains Sedge - a local native (Carex bichenoviana)

Family: Cyperaceae (Sedge family).

Occurrence: Found on heavy, seasonally wet soils, e.g. at Bells Swamp and on a private property at Baringhup

Identification:

• erect stems 20-40 cm tall come off long rhizomes
• yellow to red-brown nuts
• leaves to 60 cm long, overtopping the flower/seed heads
