Knob Sedge -native (Carex inversa)
Family: Cyperaceae (Sedge family).
S.E. Australia, Norfolk Island and New Zealand.
Occurrence: Grassland species.
Identification:
- it grows to more or less erect stalks to 50cm high, but usually less
- it is leafy, with leaves shorter than the flowering stalks
- the flower clusters contain from 2 to 6 spikelets, each spikelet with female and male florets, with the female above the male
- a green leafy bract arises from the base of the flower clusters, the bract is far longer than the flowers
