Tall Flat-sedge - native (Cyperus exaltatus)
Family: Cyperaceae (Sedge family).
Australia, Asia, Africa, South America.
Occurrence: Streams and fresh water.
Identification:
- it is a large sedge to 1.5m or more
- it is leafy, with leaves as long or longer than the flowering stalks
- the flower clusters contain numerous to very numerous flowers
- four to 6 green leafy bract arises from the base of the flower clusters, the bracts are up to half a metre long.
Name. Cyperus: from the Greek cypeiros, the name for a sedge.
