Dark Flat-sedge -native (Cyperus sanguinolentus)

Family: Cyperaceae (Sedge family).

Native to Australia, Asia, Africa.

Occurrence: swampy land. Uncommon.

Identification:

• it is a medium sedge to about half a metre.
• the leaves are shorter to as long as the flowering stalks
• the bracts on the flowersare dark coloured with pale edges, often giving the flower clusters a stripy appearance
• one to three green leafy bracts arise from the base of the flower clusters, these bracts are longer than the flower clusters.
