Stinking Pennywort - a native (Hydrocotyle laxiflora)
Family: Araliaceae (Star-hair family). It was formerly included in the carrot family.
Other names: Bush Pennies (because of the often yellowish penny-sized leaves).
Native.
Occurrence: Common.
Identification:
- it has round indented leaves - the leaves are about the size of a 20c. coin
- the flowers are in ball-shaped clusters, with all of the flower stalks radiating from a central point
- the flowers do not have showy petals
- the flowers have an unpleasant smell (and hence "stinking pennywort").
