Common Rush - a native (Juncus amabilis)
Family: Juncaceae (Rush family).
Occurrence: Common. Beside streams, standing water and seasonally wet places.
Identification:
- the pith has large air spaces, and the stems are easily compressed
- the stems are to 2.5mm wide with 30-80 fine striations
- the petals and sepals are 1.5-2.5 mm long
- the cataphylls (basal leaves) are dark brown at the base.
