Family: Pinaceae (Pine family).
Native of the Mediterranean region and western Asia.
Occurrence: Scattered occurrence.
Identification:
Aleppo Pine is much less common than the widely planted Radiata Pine. It is a noxious weed in South Australia.
Similar Species: It can usually be distinguished from the other common pines by the more or less symmetrical cones, the pale leaves, and the paired needles.
Halpensis: native to Aleppo, an ancient city in Syria. The strong and durable wood was used by the Romans for ship-building.
