English Daisy - introduced (*Bellis perennis)

Family: Asteraceae (Daisy family).

Native of Europe.

Occurrence: A lawn, nature strip and grassland weed.

Identification:

• it has white daisy-flowers with a yellow centre
• the leaves are rounded at the ends, and narrow abruptly to the short stalk at the base
• The flower stalks rise from the base of the plant.

Notes: English Daisy is sometimes planted in lawns. It prefers damper climates to that of most of Central Victoria.

bellis: Either from bellus (Latin) meaning pretty or charming, or from the dryad named Belidus; "daisy": a corruption of old English name " day's eye".
