Pink Fingers - native (Caladenia carnea)

Family: Orchidaceae (Orchid family).

Native of Eastern Australia and New Zealand.

Occurrence: Very common.

Identification:

• its flowers may be deep pink, pink or almost white
• the column and labellum have transverse bars
• it has a single slender leaf
• the labellum is cut off almost square.

Pink Fingers is similar to the very common Dusky Caladenia. It differs in that Dusky Caladenia has forward pointing triangular lobes on the labellum. Dusky Caladenia also flowers earlier than Pink Fingers.

Name. Caladenia: Greek callos = beauty; aden = a gland, referring to the disc on the tongue; carnea: flesh coloured.
