Common Starwort - introduced (*Callitriche stagnalis)

Family: Plantaginaceae (Plantain family),

Native of Europe.

Occurrence: Uncommon. Grows in water. It is an environmental weed.

Identification:

• it has small round to oval leaves; the leaves are variable in shape but never long and narrow
• the leaves are in pairs and almost stalkless
• the leaves have three or more longitudinal veins.

Starwort (*Callitriche brutea) is similar but has, beside the oval leaves, long narrow leaves. It also grows in water.
