Other name: Formerly known as Physalis viscosa.
Family: Solanaceae (Potato family).
Native of North and South America.
Occurrence: Uncommon weed. It is more common in northern areas.
Identification:
- the flowers are yellow and bell-shaped
- the plant is covered with small, sticky hairs
- the leaves are usually shallowly toothed
- the fruit is enclosed in a papery, 10-angled shell (hence gooseberry).

It is a noxious weed and is listed as Regionally Controlled in central Victoria.
