Spiny Broom - introduced (*Calicotome spinosa)
Family: Fabaceae (Pea family).
Native of the Mediterranean region.
Occurrence: An uncommon weed in Central Victoria.
Identification:
- it is a shrub with trifoliate (clover-like) leaves
- the branches end in sharp spines
- the pods are also spine-tipped
- it has yellow pea-flowers.
It is shrub that has potential to become a
troublesome and widespread weed. Many other brooms
are already major weeds.
